This month, on the 70th anniversary of the Spanish carmaker Seat, there was an important announcement that reinforced its commitment to electric mobility. Seat, currently owned by Volkswagen Group, is the most important company in the automotive industry in Spain.

During the anniversary, the president of Volkswagen, Herbert Diess, highlighted that the group and the Spanish government shared one common vision: the sustainable transformation of the automotive industry in Spain. The group has already announced that it would invest 5 billion euros in the next five years. By 2025, VW expects Barcelona's plant to host the production of electric vehicles.

The automobile industry is in one of the most evolving periods of its history. The necessity of change due to urgent problems such as climate change has forced companies to take measures and progress rapidly. There have been major advancements in the development of electric vehicles in the last few years. Some companies have highly invested in this technology: Tesla, founded in 2003, has better electric technology than consolidated manufacturers like Volkswagen (founded in 1937), BMW (founded in 1916), or Mercedes (founded in 1926).

It is interesting how these experienced and resourced companies could not develop electric vehicles as fast as a relatively new company. Nevertheless, it is good to know that such a big company is assuming its responsibilities and increasing its commitment to its business, its sector, and its society.
